Crittercism and native code

Postby paxtonhare » Fri Jun 15, 2012 10:25 am

Does/should crittercism successfully pick up crashes that occur in the native moai code?

I ask because I am using MOAISim.crash() to test it out and am not seeing the crashes on the Crittercism website. I do see the app launch, just not the crash.

Thanks,

It should on iOS, Android native crashes will not though.

Yeah. Not getting crash logs on Android is pretty useless.

Is it because you all are catching the errors in libmoai? I ask without bothering to look for myself.

Its because a native crash on android crashes the app immediately instead of going up through the java exception handler that crittercism relies on to catch and report the crashes. Its easy enough to pass it back up if we're forcing the crash.

I haven't looked into catching exceptions at a C level on Android, might be possible though.

Crittercism will be addressing this issue shortly, look for a solution sometime in the next few weeks :)

Amazing indeed! I was already investigating how to pass native errors back to Java but now I can return to focusing on my game. Thus far I have been consistently impressed with the Crittercism team's commitment to their users.
